BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 recovers points after 5-day fall
After a hard session, the BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 ended with gains on Tuesday, breaking a 5-day losing streak.
BSE Sensex closed 347.04 points, or 0.96%, up at 36,652.06, and the Nifty 50 rose 90.30 points, or 0.82%, to close at 11,057.70. The BSE MidCap Index was up 0.36%, while the SmallCap Index fell 0.74%.
FIIs sold shares worth Rs 523.94 crore on net basis, while DIIs purchased equities to the tune of Rs 1,527.67 crore, provisional data showed. Thirty five stocks on the 50-scrip Nifty index finished the day with gains. Kotak Bank, HDFC, State Bank of India (SBI), HUL and Lupin – closing between 3 per cent and 3.3 per cent higher – led the rise in the Nifty.
