Indian Govt reduces excise duty on petrol, diesel by rs 2.5 litre

A day before the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy review, the center on Thursday effected a RS 2.50 per litre cut in prices of petrol and diesel in an effort to ease inflationary pressure and boost consumer confidence.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley said that out of the RS 2.50 cut, the center will reduce excise duty by RS 1.50 per litre, while state-run fuel retailers will take a hit of RS 1 for every litre sold.
